Werner Peitsch

Werner Karl Josef Peitsch (born November 2, 1945 in Hildesheim ) is a German surgeon for general, visceral and trauma surgery.

Life

After graduating from high school in the natural sciences of the Scharnhorst School in Hildesheim , Werner Peitsch began studying at the Georg-August University in Göttingen in the summer semester of 1965 . Here he studied chemistry, medicine and dentistry. He passed the medical examination in 1971, the license to practice medicine took place in 1972. In 1971 Werner Peitsch was awarded the degree of doctor of medicine by the medical faculty of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. The topic of his dissertation was "Changes in the coagulation and fibrinolysis system after animal shock and fracture tests". The license to practice medicine followed in 1972.

From 1973 to 1979 Werner Peitsch was an assistant doctor at the Clinic and Polyclinic for General Surgery at the University of Göttingen (Director: Hans-Jürgen Peiper ). In 1978 he was recognized as a surgeon. From 1979 to 1980 Werner Peitsch worked as a research scientist at the Department of Physiology (Director: Leonard R. Johnson), Medical School, University of Texas, Houston, Texas, with the support of the German Research Foundation . In 1982 he was awarded the degree of a doctorate in medicine and the venia legendi for surgery by the medical department of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. The subject of the habilitation thesis was: "Gastrin receptors of the gastric mucosa - mechanisms of their postnatal development, hormonal and local regulation as well as their relationship to serum and antrum gastrin - an animal study". The studies were awarded the Hermann Kümmel Prize of the Northwest German Society for Surgery and the CA Ewald Prize of the German Society for Digestive and Metabolic Diseases.

From 1982 Werner Peitsch took on the role of senior physician at the University Surgical Clinic in Göttingen. In 1985 he was appointed managing senior physician and permanent representative of the clinic director. The appointment to a temporary professorship and the award of an extraordinary professorship at the University of Göttingen followed in 1986.

In 1989 Werner Peitsch took over the position of senior physician in the department for general, visceral and trauma surgery at the Catholic St. Josef Hospital in Essen-Werden , today Essen Clinic South. Here was u. a. In 1992 the first endoscopic-laparoscopic inguinal hernia operation was performed in North Rhine-Westphalia and the first hernia center was set up in Essen.

After retiring in 2010, Werner Peitsch volunteered as a doctor in the Mary-Therese hospital in Dodi Papase, Ghana, on behalf of the “German Rotary Volunteer Doctors eV”. In 2013 he completed his dissertation to obtain a doctorate in dentistry on the subject of "Complications after endoscopic-laparoscopic hernioplasty (TAPP) as a standard operation for the treatment of inguinal hernias - a retrospective analysis of the patient over 17 years". For this he was awarded the degree of doctor of dentistry by the medical faculty of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen.

In 2009 the investiture in the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem took place by the Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy Reinhard Cardinal Marx . Since 2011 he has been Chief Commander of the Commandery St. Thomas More in Essen.

Werner Peitsch is married to Maria Regina Peitsch (née Kruse) and has three children.
