Werner Schmidt (State Secretary)

Werner Schmidt (born October 23, 1911 in Hadersleben ; † 1990 ) was a German administrative lawyer .

Professional activities

The doctor of law was mayor of Eckernförde from 1952 to 1966 (and there initially belonged to the GKG and later, after a period of non-party membership, to the FDP ), then State Secretary in the Schleswig-Holstein state government (1967 to 1971 in the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Displaced Persons, 1971 to 1973 in the Ministry of the Interior).

Due to allegations made, especially about Schmidt's role in the Nazi past, the Schleswig-Holstein Interior Minister Paul Pagel felt compelled to suspend Schmidt's election as mayor of Eckernförde for the time being. In a letter to the city of August 19, 1952, it said: ... the allegations made are that he belonged to, or was a member of, associations of the recent past which did not affirm the principles of democracy ... The city is effective immediately prevented from contacting Dr. Schmidt handed over a certificate of appointment as mayor ... .

Volunteering

From 1969 to 1972 he was a member of the Advisory Board of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation . From 1974 to 1985 he was chairman of the Schleswig-Holstein Homeland Federation .
