Werner Schwab (doctor)

Werner Schwab (born July 23, 1922 in Hanau ; † December 20, 2004 ) was a German doctor in the field of ear, nose and throat medicine .

Career

Between 1945 and 1968, Schwab was assistant, senior physician and senior physician in charge at the Heidelberg University Hospital of Ear, Nose and Throat . In 1967 he followed a call to the chair for ear, nose and throat medicine at the Free University of Berlin . In 1979 he went to the Technical University of Munich as full professor and director of the ear, nose and throat clinic at the Klinikum rechts der Isar . In December 1991 he retired.

The focus of his scientific work was cancer therapy through the introduction of modern chemotherapy and CT-dependent radiation concepts. Together with J. Becker, he was the first in Germany to introduce megavolt radiation and new interstitial radiation techniques into ENT cancer therapy; also the X-ray cinematography.

In 1979 he set up the experimental audiology working group in Munich , which enjoys an international reputation in the field of objective hearing diagnostics.
