Werner striker

Werner Stürmer (born October 4, 1925 in Johannisburg , † February 24, 1988 in Mönchengladbach ) was a German artist and conchologist .

Life

Werner Stürmer grew up in Siegburg and graduated from high school there in 1944. After his war engagement in a factory, he was drafted into France towards the end of the Second World War and was taken prisoner.

Upon his return, he studied at the University of Bonn Medicine and received his doctorate in 1951 for Dr. med.

Since he originally wanted to become an artist, but at the request of his father had to finish his medical studies first, he then attended the Cologne factory schools and began studying painting. His works have been exhibited several times, including in Paris .

From 1965, Stürmer devoted himself to youth work and drug counseling in his adopted home of Cologne . At the same time, he intensified his interest in sea snails, with research on the genus Cymbium in the following years leading to an extensive collection, which was made available to the State Museum of Natural History in Stuttgart after his death .

Werner Stürmer died on February 24, 1988 in Mönchengladbach and found his final resting place in the Kessenicher Bergfriedhof in Bonn.

Works

After initially figurative painting, Stürmer's chessboard patterns dominated in the 1960s, in which the artist composed abstract figures.
