Werner Witthuhn (born December 4, 1926 in Riesenbeck , † June 1, 1981 in Rheine ) was a German painter .

Life

Witthuhn was born the son of a Riesenbeck local police officer. He attended elementary school in Riesenbeck, then the Dionysianum in Rheine .

During the Second World War he was trained as a pilot at the age of 17 and was taken prisoner by the Soviets in 1943. He only returned home in 1946.

Trained by the painter and graphic artist Bernhard Bröcker after the war, he attended the Werkkunstschule Münster . He then studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , where he was made a master class student.

From 1959 Witthuhn worked as a freelance painter and graphic artist, in 1967 he became a research assistant and draftsman at the Eye Clinic of the University of Münster . From 1970 he was an art teacher at the municipal secondary school in Borghorst , today Steinfurt . In 1973 he moved to Rheine with his partner. Werner Witthuhn died there on June 1st, 1981 after a long and serious illness. He found his final resting place in the Catholic cemetery of his birthplace in Riesenbeck.
