Werner Zögernitz

Werner Zögernitz (born February 13, 1943 in Vienna ) is an Austrian lawyer and politician . After his retirement he became president of the Institute for Parliamentarism and Democracy . For many years he was director of the parliamentary club of the ÖVP .

Life

He attended elementary school and the Bundesrealgymnasium in Laa an der Thaya . Studied Zögernitz at the Vienna University of Economics Business Studies , and then at the University of Vienna Public Law study. In 1969 he received his doctorate. In 1985 he passed the state examination for the public service in the subjects constitutional law , administrative law , budget and finance.

He started working for the ÖVP parliamentary club in 1970 as a club secretary and became ÖVP club director in 1989. Zögernitz has been an ÖVP member of the federal electoral authority for many years. This body deals with legal and constitutional issues before, during and after elections at the federal level. Zögernitz resigned from his position as club director at the end of March 2009 to become president / chairman of the new institute / association for parliamentarism and questions of democracy. In addition, he is ÖVP consultant or advisor on questions of rules of procedure and constitution.

Zögernitz is co-author and co-author (with Konrad Atzwanger) of the two standard works of Austrian parliamentarism, the comments on the rules of procedure of the National Council and the Federal Council.

Since 1962 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KHV Babenberg Vienna in the ÖCV .

Awards

Werner Zögernitz has received many awards. In 1982 he received the Leopold Kunschak Prize . In 1993 he was given the professional title of Professor . In 2000 he received the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, First Class . In 2009 Zögernitz was awarded the Great Silver Decoration with the Star for Services to the Republic of Austria .
