Weser marathon

The Weser Marathon is a regatta for canoeists and rowers from Hann. Münden via Beverungen (53 km, “Bronze”) and Holzminden (80 km, “Silver”) to Hameln (135 km, “Gold”) on the Weser .

Event dates

The regatta is officially called ICF Weser-Marathon-Fahrt and usually takes place on the first Sunday in May every year. In 2012 it took place on April 29th. The start is traditionally from 6:00 a.m. in the lock in Hann. Münden. The 1,600 to 2,000 participants per event come mainly from Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands. The organizers are alternately the two canoe clubs Mündener Kanu-Club e. V. and Kanu-Club Hameln e. V. The placement is based on the distance covered; A bronze medal is awarded for a trip to Beverungen , and a silver medal as far as Holzminden. Gold is given to anyone who comes to Hameln. There is no timekeeping.

history

The marathon ride on the Oberweser from Hann. Münden to Hameln was started for the first time in 1970. The second trip took place in 1972, since then the Weser Marathon has been held annually. On May 2, 2010 the 40th Weser Marathon took place with around 1,600 registered participants.
