history

The institute was originally founded in 1912 in the form of a cooperative cooperation between Heinrich Kuhlmann and other butchers and cattle dealers as the cattle market bank of Unterweserstädte GmbH . In 1948, inflation and currency reform reduced the bank's assets to home ownership and office equipment. In 1951, the then Viehmarktsbank was one of the founding members of the newly founded Federal Association of German Banks in connection with its membership in the deposit protection fund.

In 2001 the cattle market business was abolished and the bank reorganized as a purely private bank; three years later it was taken over by a group of investors and finally converted into a stock corporation in 2005. Since then, Weserbank has offered the full range of financial services. In doing so, she sometimes also worked with cooperation partners. Since 2006 it has had a new branch in Frankfurt am Main .

On April 9, 2008, the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) filed an application to open insolvency proceedings and closed the institute to dealings with customers. Since the bank belongs to the deposit protection fund of the Association of German Banks and the Compensation Scheme of German Banks , the deposits with non-banks amounted to 25.9 million euros up to an individual contribution of 30 percent of the liable equity, corresponding to 1.83 million euros per depositor secured.

On April 17, 2008, the “compensation case” was determined by the BaFin . The around 2,800 customers of Weserbank were compensated by the deposit protection fund and the compensation scheme of the German banks. As the BaFin also announced, there is no customer who exceeds the limit of the deposit protection (€ 1.83 million).
