history

In 1912 the slaughterhouse and cattle yard for Lehe and Alt-Bremerhaven began operations on Schlachthofstrasse, after a slaughterhouse had existed in Geestemünde since 1910. After 1924 this became the municipal slaughterhouse and cattle yard of the Lower Weser cities of Bremerhaven and Wesermünde GmbH in Lehe. In 1912, Heinrich Kuhlmann and other butchers and cattle dealers founded the cattle market bank of Unterweserstädte GmbH as a cooperative . The bank expanded to include the operation of the skin recycling company .

The six-storey, brick-built residential and commercial building of the Viehmarktsbank was built in the modern style of the 1920s (also Bauhaus style ). The Fleischeinkauf GmbH was also housed here.

In 1951 the Viehmarktsbank was one of the founding members of the newly founded Association of German Banks . 2001 the cattle market business was abolished. A purely private bank was created as the Weserbank ; 2005 as a stock corporation. In 2008 the bankrupt bank was closed.
The building is currently (2018) used as a residential and commercial building.
