Wesley C. Skiles

Wesley C. Skiles , short Wes Skiles , (born March 6, 1958 in Jacksonville (Florida) , † July 21, 2010 in West Palm Beach ) was an American cave diver and underwater photographer .

Life

Skiles started diving at the age of eight. A school trip to Ginnie Springs in 1973/74 , where he observed cave divers, led to his decision to become a cave diver himself. In 1985 he founded the company Skiles Karst Productions , with which he distributed his own films of the underwater world. He worked u. a. for television and National Geographic . This gave him several options for excursions such as the one to Antarctica , where he was the first person to step on the B-15 iceberg .

Skiles died while diving with a rebreather . Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. He was taken to the local hospital and pronounced dead a little later. He leaves behind his wife Terri and the children Nathan and Tessa Skiles.
