from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The West Gallo Berry Farm , and West Galla Berry Farm is a farm near the Scottish village of Kirkton in the Council Area Dumfries and Galloway . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A. The monument protection does not explicitly extend to the associated farmhouse.

description

The farm is isolated around two kilometers northwest of Kirkton, a few hundred meters east of the Nith . Most of the buildings are likely from the early 19th century. The elongated, three-story buildings are arranged in a U-shape. A wall and more modern buildings almost completely close the inner courtyard on the fourth side. Stables and barns are housed in the buildings. They are equipped with functional doors and windows as well as ventilation openings. With the exception of a hipped roof , final gable roofs are installed. They are covered with slate.

On the north side there is a horse mill with an octagonal floor plan. The masonry consists of quarry stone and is limed. The building is designed in an open manner with pillars that support the final tent roof . The drive installations with the devices for harnessing three horses have been preserved.
