Kirkton is a town in the Scottish Council Area Dumfries and Galloway . It is located about seven kilometers north of central Dumfries near the right bank of the Nith .
history
The remains of a Roman fort can be found north of Kirkton . It dates from the time of the Antonine occupation of Britain . An earth wall protected the 160 m wide facility. West Galloberry Farm was built north of Kirkton during the 19th century . The homestead is protected as a Category A monument.
While 202 people lived in Kirkton in 1961, only 146 people were counted in the 1971 census survey.

Kirkton is connected to the road network via a side road of the A701 ( Edinburgh -Dumfries). In Dumfries there is a connection to the A75 ( Stranraer - Gretna Green ), the A76 ( Kilmarnock - Dumfries) and the A709 , A710 , A711 and A780 .
