The West German household supplies AG (WEHAG) , headquartered in Bochum was a retail company.

history

The company was founded in 1926 by Gelsenkirchener Bergwerks-AG (GBAG) to supply its workers. In the course of the merger of GBAG with other mining and steel companies, WEHAG became part of Vereinigte Stahlwerke AG . In 1933 the “consumer establishments” of the reorganized and decentralized United Steel Works AG were spun off again. In 1957, the existing warehouse in Bochum was expanded into a central storage facility and administration by a new building with 100,000 m² of storage space and space for 300 administrative employees as well as a rail connection to the Bochum-Nord - Bochum - Weitmar railway line (today the Springorum cycle path ).

In 1968 WEHAG was merged with parts of the retail chains Raab Karcher and Stinnes AG to form Westdeutsche Discount-Handels GmbH (WEDI) based in Wattenscheid . At that time, WEDI operated more than 100 retail stores under the name WEDI and several supermarkets under the name DIVI . With effect from January 1, 1970, the WEDI and DIVI stores as well as the AGROS stores belonging to Stinnes AG were then merged under the roof of the newly founded company Deutsche SB-Kauf in Essen , which belonged to the federally owned Veba group. In August 1985 Veba separated from Deutsche SB-Kauf GmbH , which was converted back into a stock corporation under the leadership of Asko AG and several banks .

In 1989, parts of the over-indebted co op AG were incorporated into Deutsche SB-Kauf AG and the headquarters relocated to Frankfurt am Main , before Deutsche SB-Kauf AG became part of the Metro Group in 1996 and the DIVI stores gradually moved into "Real, -" were renamed.

The former DIVI administration building (Friedrich-Ebert-Straße 14 in Wattenscheid ) is now used as a mixed office building, the Wehag administration and warehouse building (Querenburger Straße 19 in Bochum) was first used as a district army replacement office, currently (2012) as a mixed office and warehouse buildings.
