Westfälisches Pferdestammbuch eV is a breeders' association founded in 1904 . The Westphalian Horse Studbook is responsible for representing the interests of horse breeders in the Westphalia breeding area , keeping stallion and stud books , registering foals and advising breeders on breeding issues. In addition, the Westphalian Horse Studbook offers breeders a platform for marketing their horses in the form of auctions . Due to the close cooperation with the Rhenish Horse Studbook, the auctions are primarily aimed at breeders of Westphalian warm-blooded animals and Westphalian riding ponies as well as Rhenish warm-blooded animals and Rhenish riding ponies. These can be sold by the breeders at auctions, elite auctions and foal auctions.

The Westphalian Horse Studbook is also responsible for licensing stallions. At the main licensing, which traditionally takes place in November, the stallions of the Rhenish and Westphalian warm-blooded horses are licensed. There is a separate licensing for Rhenish and Westphalian riding ponies, which takes place shortly after the main licensing. The licensing for warm-blooded animals and riding ponies only takes place at the headquarters of the Westphalian Horse Studbook in Münster-Handorf . Rhenish and Westphalian draft horses are also chosen every November. However, the licensing always takes place alternately, one year at the Westphalian horse studbook in Münster-Handorf, the other year in Wickrath at the Rheinischer horse studbook.

The Westphalian Horse Studbook also has studbooks for Frisians , Haflingers , Icelandic horses , catfish ponies (all sections) and many other horse and pony breeds bred in Westphalia .
