history
The Westquarter settlement was created in connection with the Westquarter House , which was owned by the Livingstones for a long time . In 1884 the structure was torn down and replaced by a lock, which was again demolished in 1934. Only the pigeon house from Westquarter House has been preserved and is now listed as a monument in the highest category A. The development of West Quarter did not take off until the 1930s, when the town was promoted as a planned settlement in connection with the mining activities in the area. In this context, a primary school was also established. In 2001, 1,187 people lived in West Quarter.
