The West Rittrumer Lake (also lake Westrittrum ) is an oligotrophic pond in an opencast mine west of Westrittrum , in the district of Oldenburg in Lower Saxony .

The northern Westrittrumer See is about 320 × 300 m and has 8.7 hectares of water. Only an embankment separates it from the swimming lake. The bathing lake is approx. 200 m long to the west and south. The western arm is about 70 m wide, the southern about 90 m. The water surface is about two hectares , the maximum water depth five meters. It was created when a former sand pit gradually filled with rainwater. The lake has no surface inlets or outlets, which is why it is considered a heavenly pond .
The Landriede flows past 60 m south of the south bank of the lake , a left tributary of the 700 m east running Hunte , from whose groundwater bed water also flows through.

The lake is open to swimming and the district of Oldenburg regularly monitors the water quality from May to September. The community of Großenkneten looks after the site and provides a toilet trailer there in the summer months. The water watch is not on site. The water is about two meters deep on average, and there is a shallow water area for non-swimmers.
Except for some reeds, the bank areas are regularly kept free of vegetation. Breeding birds are not native there and there are no fish stocks .
