Wetterkreuz (mining)
A weather cross , also known as a weather bridge, is a weather-engineering structure that serves to separate fresh and defeated weather . The mixing of the different weather currents or a weather short circuit is prevented by weather crosses .
Basics
In the case of storage sites with flat storage it is often necessary that different weather currents have to be crossed with one another. In particular, this also occurs in single-bed mining , as was used in potash mining and hard coal mining in Great Britain. This then leads to a mix of fresh and defeated weather. This mixing of the different weather currents must be prevented with weather structures. Another weather-related problem when building soles is that stretches are often close together. These routes are then often connected to one another in the construction departments by chopping. Due to the way of the alignment , there is in this area, especially when a strong weather flow is required, to losses of weather due to weather short circuits. If weather crosses are destroyed by a firedamp explosion , the weather currents are mixed up. In addition, the secondary swaths can spread far into the mine workings.
construction
Weather crosses must be built in such a way that the weather cross-section of the crossing weather stream is not narrowed. As a rule, they must be built in such a way that they have sufficient strength. They are usually made of sheet steel elements or they are made of stone. There are also weather crosses made from molded reinforced concrete parts. Under certain conditions, simple wooden crates are also sufficient as a weather cross. The way and how carefully a weather cross is built depends primarily on the pressure differences between the two intersecting weather currents. With approximately the same weather pressure conditions, wooden weather crosses are sufficient. At very important weather crosses you lead one route over the other and leave a mountain fortress between the two routes. Weather crosses made from molded parts must be specially sealed. For this purpose, the sealing materials are firmly plugged into the existing cracks. In order to enable driving , weather crosses are provided with weather doors .
