Wetzlar (church district)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The church district of Wetzlar is located in the northeastern part of the Limburg diocese . It is named after the district town of Wetzlar . The Wetzlar district does not only include municipalities in the Wetzlar city area. It goes from Waldsolms (Lahn-Dill-Kreis) in the south to Aßlar (Lahn-Dill-Kreis) in the north.

particularities

The Wetzlar Cathedral : Since the Reformation it has been used by Catholic and Protestant Christians alike. This Simultaneum inspired the cathedral parish to set up a joint internet presence for both denominations.

In August 2008, the then district dean Peter Kollas got into public media coverage when he was recalled by Limburg Bishop Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst . The dean had participated in a blessing service for a gay couple who had previously been at the registry office in Wetzlar Cathedral. As a reason for the recall, the diocese referred to the teaching of the Catholic Church, according to which homosexual unions cannot be blessed.
