Tini "Whetu" Marama Tirikatene-Sullivan , Order of New Zealand (born January 9, 1932 in Rātana pā ; † July 20, 2011 in Wellington ) was a New Zealand politician .

Career

Whetu Tirikatene-Sullivan was born in Rātana pā near Wanganui . That's where she grew up too. She received her PhD from the Australian National University . She was a member of the New Zealand House of Representatives from 1967 to 1996 for a total of ten terms . At the time of leaving parliament, she was the second-longest MP.

She was one of 20 carriers of the Order of New Zealand , the highest order in New Zealand.
