Order of New Zealand

The Order of New Zealand is the highest honor of New Zealand and was created to honor "outstanding service to the Crown and people of New Zealand in civilian or military terms." It was founded on February 6, 1987. The order is modeled on the Order of Merit and the Order of the Companions of Honor .

In addition to the head of state, the order has a maximum of 20 regular members, but it is possible to accept additional members and honorary members , who are not included in this number. Additional members were accepted on the 20th anniversary of the founding of the order.

The members use the abbreviation ONZ after their name .

The medal consists of an oval medallion with the coat of arms of New Zealand in gold and colored enamel, which is worn on a ribbon in white and ocher.
