Whippany

Whippany in the state of New Jersey is one of 39 parishes in the Hanover City Council in Morris County and covers 17.9 km². The city is connected to Interstate 287 by New Jersey Route 10 and is approximately 30 km as the crow flies from Manhattan in New York City .

history

The name Whippany comes from the Native American Indians . They called the place "Whippanong", which means "place where the willow tree grows". This name is derived from the trees on the Whippany River . Mentioned half a century before the Morris County Council was established, Whippany was home to the very first church in what is now the Morris County Council.

Economy and Infrastructure

In 1927, due to technical developments by Western Electric in the USA, television was first broadcast from Whippany to New York City.

Since 2013, the US headquarters of the German pharmaceutical company Bayer has been located on the former Alcatel-Lucent site on Whippany Road and New Jersey Route 10 .

Culture

Whippany has a railroad museum that's just off New Jersey Route 10 .
