Whitley , real name Lawrence Greenwood (born October 22, 1984 in Melbourne ), is an Australian singer-songwriter from Melbourne who lives in London .

Career

Lawrence Greenwood chose his stage name as a tribute to the blues singer Chris Whitley, who died in 2005 . He released his first album in 2007. He received good reviews for The Submarine , but especially as a live musician he made a name for himself. Often his concerts and entire tours were sold out. He also toured the US with great success and was named one of the Top 10 Breaking Artists to Watch for 2008 by Rolling Stone magazine . Songs like More Than Life were played on television in the USA, for example in series like One Tree Hill .

Whitley's second album, Go Forth, Find Mammoth , hit the Australian charts in 2009, and he was also nominated for it at the ARIA Awards . Nevertheless, a break came for him afterwards. Fed up with touring, he dropped the Whitley name for a while, left Australia and traveled the world. Eventually he settled in London. It took four years to finish his third album, Even the Stars Are a Mess . It appeared again in 2013 under the name Whitley and was able to place itself again in the Australian charts.
