The Whitney Point is a rocky headland on the Budd Coast of the East Antarctic Wilke country . On the west side of the Clark Peninsula , it limits the entrance to Powell Cove to the north .
Aerial photographs of the US American Operation Highjump (1946-1947) were used to map it, when it was initially mistaken for a small island. The US polar explorer Carl R. Eklund carried out measurements on site in 1957. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1963 after I. A. Whitney, aerial photographer for Operation Highjump.
