The Wide Open Islands (from English wide open , wide open, gaping wide ' ) are a group of islands and cliffs in the group of Joinville Islands off the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula . They are 11 km north of Boreal Point on Joinville Island .
The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey carried out surveys between 1953 and 1954. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1958 after its exposed and isolated geographical location on the south side of Bransfield Street .
