The Vienna School for Osteopathy (WSO) is a private educational institution in the field of osteopathy in Austria. Postgraduate and part-time training for graduates of physiotherapy and doctors are offered . The university courses are also open to graduates from other osteopathy schools. So far 550 osteopaths have completed their training, currently there are 350 students in training groups. The WSO was founded in 1991 and was the first provider of osteopathic training at an academic level in Austria. It is located in Vienna- Hietzing at Frimbergergasse 6.

The WSO was founded in 1991 with the sponsor of the International School for Osteopathy by Raphael van Assche, Margot Seitschek and Raimund Engel in cooperation with Bernard Ligner. It was founded in cooperation with the Center International d'Osteopathie in St. Etienne, France. This cooperation model was extended to the European School of Osteopathy (ESO) in Maidstone, Great Britain in 1998 .

For the first courses in 1991, event rooms were rented in the Kaiser Franz Josef Hotel and in the Kolpinghaus Währing. In 1997 the company moved to Frimbergergasse 6 in Vienna's 13th district. From the beginning, the courses were taught by international lecturers.

Since 2005 there has been a cooperation with the Danube University Krems within the framework of the u. a. the university course Master of Science (osteopathy) is offered. In this context, the area of ​​scientific work at the WSO was also more strongly developed. Theses and master theses from a number of European schools are published on the Osteopathic Research Web , which was initiated and administered by the WSO. Since the course year 2009/10, the teaching clinic in the premises of the Department of Physical Medicine of the Wiener Privatklinik in Pelikangasse 15 in the 9th district of Vienna has been under the direction of Prim. Andreas Kainz installed.

The overall training at the WSO is divided into two parts. The basic course is a well-founded and holistic osteopathic training that is taught by an international team and carried out by the WSO. The basic course comprises a total of 1,200 teaching units. The Master of Science (Osteopathy) university course is offered in cooperation with Danube University Krems and comprises 750 teaching units. In addition, the university course Academic Expert is offered as an alternative to graduation . In the overall training of the WSO, the basic course and Master of Science (osteopathy) or academic expert (osteopathy) are combined. The WSO also offers a wide range of postgraduate seminars .

Cooperations

The WSO is closely networked in terms of professional policy. She was instrumental in founding the Austrian Society for Osteopathy (ÖGO) . Together with the Osteopathic Center for Children (OCC) in London, Great Britain, the WSO founded the Osteopathic Center for Children (OZK) as a training center for children's osteopathy, which subsequently developed into an independent institution. Since 2000 the WSO has been involved in the Osteopathic European Academic Network (OsEAN) , which was founded in Great Britain in 2000. The president has been WSO director Raimund Engel since 2006. The WSO is an OsEAN member. In 2006 the WSO was actively involved in founding the Forum for Osteopathic Regulation in Europe (FORE) . The WSO can offer another course location through a cooperation with the Klagenfurt Training Center (FBZ) . In 2010 Raimund Engel was involved in the creation of the World Health Organization's Benchmarks for Training in Osteopathy .

Clinical practice

Treatment in the teaching clinic

In the teaching clinic, the clinic days that are mandatory for training are offered in cooperation with the Wiener Privatklinik . In addition to mandatory supervision treatments and clinical afternoons, the practice in the teaching clinic represents the practical part of the basic course at the WSO. In the university courses, practice periods are documented within the framework of practice portfolios.

Certifications & Standards

The WSO is certified by Ö-Cert and CERT NÖ and has been undergoing further certification at European level since May 2014 by the European Committee for Standardization , carried out by Austrian Standards International . After all, the WSO's training meets the standards of the World Health Organization's Benchmarks for Training in Osteopathy .
