Hieronymus Wierix also Jeronymus (* 1553 in Antwerp ; † November 21, 1619 there ) was a Flemish engraver , graphic artist and draftsman.

Life

His brothers were Johannes Wierix (also called Jan) and Antoine Wierix , they also worked as engravers. Johannes and Hieronymus made book illustrations for Christopher Plantin . They were members of the Guild of Luke . His daughter Cecila married the engraver Jean-Baptiste Barbé . Among his students were Abraham van Merlen , Jan Baptist van den Sande the Elder , and Jacob de Weert .

Works

Copper engravings by him are among others in the Grunwald Center collection of the Armand Hammer Museum of Art and in the copper engraving cabinet of the art collections of the Veste Coburg .
