Wiesław Kwaśny

Wiesław Kwaśny (born December 7, 1950 in Cracow ) is a Polish violinist, violist and music teacher.

Kwaśny attended the violin class of Eugenia Umińska at the Kraków Music Academy and was a scholarship holder of the Yale School of Music . He won fifth prize at the Lisbon International Competition, third at the Naples International Violin Competition, second at the North Carolina Symphony Competition and first at the G.B. Dealy Competition in Dallas.

In Poland he was first concertmaster of the Krakow Radio and TV Orchestra, then soloist in Jerzy Maksymiuk's Polish Chamber Orchestra and then soloist and concertmaster of the Sinfonia Varsovia . With these ensembles he has given more than 1200 concerts in Germany and abroad in twenty years under conductors such as Yehudi Menuhin , Mstislaw Rostropowitsch and Jerzy Maksymiuk and with soloists such as Justus Frantz , Frank Peter Zimmermann and Peter Schreier .

Kwaśny is a professor at the Krakow Music Academy, teaches at other secondary music schools and was a visiting professor in Mainz. He is concertmaster of the Kraków Philharmonic, works closely with the Capella Bydgostiensis chamber orchestra , performs as a violin and viola soloist with symphony orchestras and as a chamber musician (violist) often with the violinist Kaja Danczowska . He also gives master classes and acts as a juror in violin competitions.
