Wiesenau is a district of Langenhagen , which borders the A2 in the north . The district is an enclave of Langenhagen, as it is completely surrounded by the Hanover city area with the exception of two street culverts.

history

Until the time of National Socialism , Wiesenau was a rural district with many single-family houses. When the Reichsautobahn was built, Wiesenau was separated from Langenhagen. An industrial area was created in the south.

With the construction of the “ War School ” on Stader Landstrasse as today's Vahrenwalder Strasse , the “Heereswaffen-Werkstatt” south of Heinrich-Heine-Strasse and the integration of the Max Müller, Wohlenberg and other factories into the emerging war industry, the number of employees rose enormous. In mid-1938 there were almost 10,000 foreign workers in Langenhagen. To meet the urgent housing shortage, barracks were built, such as the “Osterrieder Hof”, which was still inhabited by refugees after the Second World War .

Wiesenau suffered massive damage from Allied air raids during World War II, not least because of the motorway and the neighboring industrial plants. Only a few apartments remained undamaged. Reconstruction began in the early 1950s .

Wiesenau today

The “Wiesenau” tram station is not in Wiesenau, but in Hanover

Today Wiesenau consists of single-family houses and three-story residential buildings. The Wiesenau tram station is on Vahrenwalder Strasse in Hanover . In Wiesenau there is also the “Quartiertreff Wiesenau”, which regularly offers events and helps senior citizens and refugees, and the Emmaus Church and a school. The residents complain about the isolation by the motorway and industrial areas in Brink-Hafen , which make the connection difficult. There is also little infrastructure.

Houses and streets are being renovated in many places. There is a new development area.
