The former building of the Wiesengrundschule is in the Heppenheim district of Worms and is a protected cultural monument.

history

The 7- axis building, built in 1856/57 from multi-colored, articulated sandstone , is located in the Heppenheim district of Worms at Kirchhofplatz 9. Originally the house, which was built in the neo-classicism style, also included teachers' apartments.

To the west, the building borders on Kirchhofplatz, where, in addition to its status as an individual monument, it forms an ensemble monument around the Heppenheim war memorial together with the Protestant parish church and the Protestant rectory .

Current development

The building, whose rooms on the ground floor are barrier-free , is used today as the location of the Heppenheim local administration. The newly built school building is located at the same address and houses a primary school .

In 2010, the city of Worms received 14,790 euros from the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry for the Environment, Forests and Consumer Protection as part of the “Child-friendly Rhineland-Palatinate - Politics for and with children” campaign, with the condition that this sum be used to redesign the schoolyard in a natural way to protect existing bushes and trees.

The gym has been used as accommodation for war refugees from Syria since November 2015 . According to the incumbent Mayor of Worms Michael Kissel, physical education for the school children will still be guaranteed.
