In addition, the small cruise ships Cape May Light and Cape Cod Light were bought and used.

There was a contract with this shipyard in Mississippi to build two new ships for United States Lines under the name "Project America". The terrorist attacks in September 2001 caused a slump in the American cruise industry. American Classic Voyages went bankrupt about a month after the attacks and finally closed its doors in 2003. The half-finished new buildings remained at the shipyard. They were sold to Norwegian Cruise Line in 2002 . One of the two hulls became the Pride of America at Bremerhaven's Lloyd shipyard .
