Khanna ( Panjabi ਖੰਨਾ ) is a city in the Indian state of Punjab .

Khanna is located in the North Indian Plain 250 km north-northwest of the federal capital New Delhi . The city is located on the national highway NH 1 between the district capital Ludhiana and Ambala , 45 km from Ludhiana. Khanna has the largest grain market in Asia. It is a major industrial city, only 6 km from Mandi Gobindgarh, known as the “steel city” .

The city of Khanna has had the status of a Municipal Council since 1931 . It is divided into 27 wards and has an area of ​​32 km². In the 2011 census, the population was 128,137.
