It belongs to the Arrondissement of Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire and is part of the canton of Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire (until 2015: Canton of Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire-Nord ). She is a member of the Communauté de communes Loire et Nohain .

La Celle-sur-Loire is located about 60 kilometers southwest of Auxerre on the Loire , which also forms the western municipal boundary. La Celle-sur-Loire is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Neuvy-sur-Loire in the north and north-west, Annay in the north, Arquian in the north-east, Saint-Vérain in the east, Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire in the south and south-east, Myennes in the south , Boulleret in the southwest, Léré in the west and Sury-près-Léré in the west and northwest.
The A77 autoroute and the former Route nationale 7 (today's D907) run through the municipality .
