history
Arthel was first mentioned in 849 and belonged to the Bishop of Nevers in 884 . In the 13th century, the place came into the possession of a family who subsequently named themselves after him. In 1378 Guillaume de Lamoignon is the owner of Arthel, in the second half of the 15th century Arthel is partly owned by Jean de Chabannes, Count von Dammartin , the other part is owned by Philibert Boutillat.
