The Victory I is a passenger ship flying the flag of the Bahamas . The ship will be used by Victory Cruise Lines, based in New Albany , Indiana , for cruises on the Great Lakes , St. Lawrence River and New England . The ship is managed by Cruise Management International.

history

The ship was built under hull number 242 at the Atlantic Marine shipyard in Jacksonville , Florida for American Classic Voyages . The keel was laid in August 1999, the launch on June 2, 2000. The ship was delivered to the shipping company on April 12, 2001. The cost of building the ship was estimated at $ 37 million and ended up being $ 37.9 million. American Classic Voyages put the ship, christened on April 25, 2001 in Alexandria and named after the lighthouse at the southern tip of New Jersey , into service on May 5, 2001. The shipping company wanted to use the ship, the shape of which is said to be reminiscent of the package ships of the late 19th century, on the Great Lakes in summer, along the US east coast in spring and autumn and in the Caribbean in the winter months , but only reported a few months later the delivery of the ship in October 2001 bankruptcy. The ship was in Green Cove Springs on St. Johns River launched . In June 2008 the Maritime Administration of the US Department of Transportation sold the ship together with the sister ship Cape Cod Light for a total of 18 million US dollars.

In 2010 the ship was used together with the Ola Esmeralda in the port of Port-au-Prince in Haiti as a hotel ship for UN employees who were used there for reconstruction as a result of the earthquake in January .

In November 2011, the ship served as accommodation for 240 students from St. Mary's College of Maryland in St. Marys City after their dormitory was closed due to mold. In December 2011 it was launched in Charleston.

In 2015, the ship was used as the Saint Laurent by the cruise line Haimark Line for cruises on the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River as well as to Cuba. In June of that year, the ship collided with a lock wall on the St. Lawrence Seaway and had to be repaired. The cruise line filed for bankruptcy in October 2015 and named the failure of the ship as one of the reasons. Since July 2016 the ship has been operating as Victory I for Victory Cruise Lines, which it operates in the same trading area as Haimark Line.

At times the ship was also used by Comfort at Sea as a hotel ship for the construction of offshore wind farms .

Technical data and equipment

The ship is powered by two four-stroke - eight-cylinder - diesel engines of the manufacturer Caterpillar (type: 3516 B), each with 1,491  kW power driven. The motors drive two rudder propellers . The ship reaches a speed of up to 14  knots . It is equipped with a bow thruster with an output of around 740 kW.

Two generators , which are driven by two Caterpillar auxiliary diesels, as well as a Caterpillar emergency generator are available for the power supply. The generators each have an output of 1809 kW ( apparent output 2261  kVA ), the emergency generator 315 kW output (apparent output 394 kVA).

The ship has six decks , five of which are accessible to passengers. 110 double cabins are available for passengers, so that 220 people can be accommodated on board. 101 of the cabins are outside cabins, nine inside cabins. There are seven single cabins and 36 double cabins available for the crew members .
