Company history

Günther Wiesenthal became a partner in the Mercedes-Benz dealerships in Prague and Vienna as early as 1924 . In 1929 the Motor Import Gesellschaft was founded and from 1932 Günther Wiesenthal was managing director of the Austrian sales company. From 1945 the founder devoted himself to expanding the Austrian sales network, became President of Mercedes-Benz in the USA and Canada in 1958 and also built up a sales network there. In 1960 Günther Wiesenthal founded Wiesenthal & Co. KG as a sales company for Mercedes-Benz in Eastern Austria. The founder Günther Wiesenthal died in 1960.

In 1964 the new Wiesenthal headquarters in Vienna's 10th district of Favoriten was expanded and converted . Patrick Graf Douglas and Susanne Sulke-Wiesenthal, the daughter of the founder Günther Wiesenthal, became managing partners of Wiesenthal in 1972. Over the next 30 years they built Wiesenthal into an international group with branches in Slovakia, Hungary and the USA. The business fields now went far beyond the pure sales of Mercedes-Benz. Service , financing and insurance completed the range of services. In 1998 Wiesenthal set up a base for the new car brand smart in Vienna and took over the sales of the brand for Eastern Austria.

In 2000 the company was reorganized into a stock corporation and traded as Wiesenthal & Co AG. Since 2003, the sales network has been expanded further through investments in Germany and the Czech Republic. In 2007 the Wiesenthal Performance Center for vehicles from Mercedes-AMG, designo, SLR McLaren and Maybach was opened in the 22nd district of Vienna, Donaustadt .

In 2012 the corporate form was changed to a GmbH .

In 2013, the 14th location in Vienna, on Triester Straße in the 23rd district of Vienna, was opened.

In 2015 the name of Wiesenthal Handel & Service GmbH was changed . This was followed by a restructuring process with the aim of a leaner and more efficient organization. In the course of this, the US business (Austrian Motors Corporation) and the company's financing division (Welcome) were sold. In the same year the 15th location was opened in Oberwart.

In 2016, Felix Clary and Aldringen became the new board member of Wiesenthal Autohandels AG .

In 2018, the 11 sales agency partners affiliated with Wiesenthal with their own service workshops were handed over by Wiesenthal to Mercedes-Benz Austria in Salzburg. The previous Wiesenthal locations in Lower Austria and Burgenland - Krems, Zwettl, Unterradlberg, St. Pölten, Eisenstadt, Oberwart, Oberpullendorf and Strebersdorf - were taken over by the German AVAG Group on May 1, 2018.

From this point on, Wiesenthal focused its business activities in Austria on Vienna and the surrounding area with the locations Wiesenthal Wiedner Hauptstraße, Donaustadt, Troststraße, Liesing, Triester Straße, Performance Center, Mo'Drive and Wiesenthal Brunn, thus consolidating its position as a Mercedes-Benz capital city dealer.

In 2019, Henrik Starup-Hansen takes over the board position of the internationally active Wiesenthal Autohandels AG from Dr. Felix Clary and Aldringen, who is moving to the supervisory board. At the same time, the native Dane Starup-Hansen is the managing director of Wiesenthal Handel und Service GmbH, which now has 6 locations in Austria.

Wiesenthal has also been acting as a sales and service partner for Mercedes-Benz vans since March 2019.
