Wigbert Schwenke (born July 22, 1960 in Magdeburg ) is a German CDU politician . From 2002 to 2016 he was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt .

Life and work

After graduating from high school, Schwenke began studying pedagogy at Magdeburg University in 1978 . In 1980 he had to quit this course for political reasons, according to his own statement. After training as a skilled worker for data processing, he worked as an operator at the data processing center in Magdeburg from 1980 to 1991. Afterwards he was chairman of the works council at DVZ Magdeburg until 1992. From 1992 to 1994 Schwenke was a consultant for employee issues at the Christian Social Policy Foundation in Königswinter eV. From 1995 to 2002 he worked again as an operator, this time at the Magdeburg public utility.

Wigbert Schwenke is married and has two children.

Wigbert Schwenke joined the CDU in 1991. He has been a member of the CDU Magdeburg District Executive Committee since 1992. From 1992 to 2005 he was district chairman of the CDA Magdeburg. Since 1994 he has been a member of the state board of the CDA Saxony-Anhalt.

Schwenke was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt from the 4th to the 7th electoral term . He was elected in the 2002 state elections in constituency 13 ( Magdeburg IV ). In the elections in 2006 and 2011 he managed to get back into the state parliament by winning the direct mandate in constituency 12 ( Magdeburg III ).

Schwenke was deputy chairman of the Committee on Labor and Social Affairs. He has also been a member of Magdeburg's city ​​council since 1990 and chairman of the CDU / Bund for Magdeburg parliamentary group since 2009. Wigbert Schwenke was defeated by the incumbent Lutz Trümper when he was elected Lord Mayor of Magdeburg on March 9, 2008 .
