Viktor Stepanovich Balichin

Viktor Stepanovič Balichin ( Russian Виктор Степанович Балихин ; scientific transliteration Viktor Stepanovič Balichin ; * 1893 in Moscow ; † 1953 ) was a Soviet rationalist architect.

Life

Viktor Balichin was born in Moscow in 1893.

He studied at the WChUTEMAS in the United Left Workshops (OBMAS) with Nikolai Ladowski until 1924 . In 1921 he designed a library building for Ladowski. His draft diploma was the design of an airport. In 1923 he was a founding member of ASNOWA . From 1923 to 1929 he was a teacher at WChUTEMAS, first in the basic course “Space”, then at the architecture department in the subject “Architectural Composition”. After Nikolai Ladowski and his students split off from ASNOWA in 1928, Balichin passed it on until 1932.

In 1930 he took part with a brigade of ASNOWA (with Vladimir Krinsky , Viktor Petrow , Irina Tichomirowa ) in a tender for the All-Union Art Palace in Moscow.

In 1931 he took part in the first round of the competition for the Palace of the Soviets in Moscow with Pyotr Budo , Militsa Prokhorova , Michail Turkus , Flora Sevortjan and Romuald Iodko .

He died in 1953.

The VS Balikhin Archive at the Canadian Center for Architecture in Montreal contains over 130 photographs of cities, locations and projects by various architects from the period 1923 to 1935 that Balichin collected, as well as the manuscript of an article by Balichin.
