Viktor Grigoryevich Kuskin ( Russian Виктор Григорьевич Кузькин ; born July 6, 1940 in Moscow , Russian SFSR ; † June 24, 2008 in Sochi , Russia ) was a Soviet ice hockey player who was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2005.

Career

Kuskin began his professional career in 1958 with HK CSKA Moscow in the Russian Ice Hockey League, where he stayed for 18 years until he retired in 1976. In the 530 league games, the defender scored 71 goals. He was Soviet champion 13 times and won seven European titles with CSKA. He was part of the league's all-star team twice and in 1963 he was awarded the title “USSR ZMS” (roughly: “deserved sports champion”). For the Soviet national ice hockey team he was on the ice 173 times and scored 19 goals during that time. With the Soviet Union he was eight times world champion and once vice world champion. At the Olympic Games he won gold medals three times with the USSR ( 1964 , 1968 and 1972 ). After his playing career, he became one of the coaches at CSKA Moscow. On the sidelines of the men's ice hockey world championship in 2005 , he was honored with admission to the IIHF Hall of Fame . In 1963 he was inducted into the Russian and Soviet Hockey Hall of Fame .

Kuskin died in June 2008 while diving in the Black Sea .
