regulate

The legal basis for wild camping is regulated differently in the individual countries and can also be handled differently within a country, depending on the region. While some countries have explicit laws regarding wild camping, in most countries it is indirectly banned by a combination of different laws, such as trespassing and property damage . While wild camping is not officially allowed in most of the countries, it is tolerated in many cases. The Scandinavian countries are an exception here, where wild camping is officially permitted on the basis of the right of everyone .

In the federal states of Brandenburg , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein , however, the state nature conservation laws allow non-motorized travelers (hikers, cyclists, canoeists, riders and so on) to set up tents for one night in the open countryside, provided that there are no special protection regulations and camping " allowed under private law ”, ie allowed by the property owner. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, national parks, national natural monuments and nature reserves are generally exempt from the right to camp, camping is prohibited in coastal dunes and on beach ridges . In Schleswig-Holstein camping in coastal dunes, on beach ridges and on the beach is prohibited.

In addition to the legal basis, there are also rules of conduct that should be taken into account within the Wildcamper community. These are primarily aimed at not damaging nature and leaving the areas used as they were found.
