Wilfred Collet

Sir Wilfred Robert Collet KCMG (* 1856 in St. Pancras, Islington , † 1929 in London ) was a British colonial administrator.

biography

Collet came from Islington and had four siblings, including the future sociologist Clara Collet . His father was the journalist and free thinker Collet Dobson Collet . After a vacation in Calais in 1969, he stayed in France like his sister Caroline and attended a secular priest school there for a short time. However, the stay was canceled a year later when the Franco-German War broke out. Back in England, he and his sister Clara had frequent contact with the Marx family from 1875 onwards . Wilfried. He married Mary Ewins, who lived most of the time with their children in England. After she died in 1912 due to illness, their children grew up in England with his sisters.

He was Governor of British Honduras from May 9, 1913 to January 29, 1918 , was made Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George on January 1, 1915 , and was from April 15, 1917 to April 4 1923 Governor of British Guiana . He was a member of the Polynesian Society. He retired in 1923.
