Wilfried Jilge (* 1970 in Mainz ) is a German East European historian and lecturer at the University of Leipzig .

Life

Jilge studied Eastern European history, Slavic studies and economics at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . In September 2001 he became a research assistant at the GWZO Leipzig. Since 2005 he has been a board member and founding member of the German-Ukrainian civil society forum " Kiev Talks ".

In 2014 Jilge was a member of the Eastern European Policy Expert Group, coordinated by the German Society for Eastern European Studies and funded by the Foreign Office , which developed recommendations for German foreign policy towards Ukraine and Eastern Europe.

Focus of work

Jilge deals with:

  • Nation, nation building and nationalism in Eastern Europe
  • History politics, transnational, collective cultures of remembrance in Ukraine and in Eastern Europe; Soviet nationality and identity politics and Pan-Slavic community consciousness in Eastern Europe
  • German-Ukrainian cultural relations since 1991 as well as German-European-Ukrainian relations in the light of “Eastern partnership” and EU neighborhood policy
  • History, ideology and politics of the ethnic-neoconservative movement in the Bohemian countries and German-Czech relations 1918–1945
