Life

After graduating from high school in Weilburg in 1942, Kuhn studied mathematics, physics and philosophy at the Philipps University of Marburg , military service in France and Italy and prisoner of war from 1945 to 1948 . In 1954 and 1955 he passed his state exams for teaching at grammar schools and then studied the history of physics at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main with his doctorate in 1957 (The problem of relative movement in Huygens). At the same time he was already teaching at grammar schools, first in Limburg, then in Frankfurt and Weilburg. In 1957 he became a teacher, in 1963 a senior teacher and in 1968 a senior director. From 1968 to 1971 he headed the natural science department of the Hessian Institute for Teacher Training in Frankfurt and from 1968 to 1978 he was chairman of the curriculum committee for physics teaching in Hesse. From 1971 he was professor for physics didactics at the University of Giessen, where he was dean of the physics faculty from 1975 to 1976 and retired in 1991. But he continued to teach in Giessen afterwards.

In 1981 he was visiting professor at the Institute for Theoretical Physics at the University of Vienna .

He is the editor and author of several high school physics textbooks.

From 1973 to 1991 he headed the Physics Didactics Committee of the DPG . Since 1980 he has been co-editor of Praxis der Naturwissenschaften.

In 1982 he received the Robert Wichard Pohl Prize .
