Wilfried Schlueter

Wilfried Schlueter (born January 28, 1935 in Königsberg ) is a German legal scholar and former professor at the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster .

Schlüter grew up near Königsberg in East Prussia. After the Germans were expelled from the Eastern Territories after the Second World War , his family found refuge in Dortmund. He passed his Abitur at the local Humboldt Gymnasium and began studying law at the University of Göttingen in 1955 . In 1957 Schlueter moved to the University of Mainz , where he passed his first state examination in law in September 1959. He then did his legal clerkship and at the same time worked as a research assistant at the University of Mainz. After his second state examination in Rhineland-Palatinate in 1964, he devoted himself fully to his academic career and completed his doctorate in Mainz in the same year with the thesis supervised by Hans Brox The Power of Representation of the Shareholder and the Fundamentals of Society . Schlüter then worked briefly at Heidelberg University before becoming a research assistant to his doctoral supervisor Hans Brox at Münster University in 1965 . Schlüter completed his habilitation in 1971 and received the venia legendi for the subjects civil law, commercial law, labor law and civil procedure law.

Schlüter then worked as a “scientific advisor and professor” at the University of Münster. After a substitute professor at the University of Hamburg , he became a full professor at the Free University of Berlin in the 1976 summer semester . In 1980 Schlüter moved to the University of Münster, where he held the chair for civil law, commercial law, labor law and civil procedure law until his retirement in 2000. From 1982 to 1986 he was also rector of the University of Münster. In addition, Schlüter had been a part-time judge at the Hamm Higher Regional Court since 1981 . Schlüter is also an honorary doctor from the Universities of Lille and Riga . His main research interests are family and inheritance law.
