The Wilhelm Höcker tournament is an annual indoor hockey competition that is held in Güstrow .

A men's cup tournament has been held since 1957 in memory of the 1st Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . In 1985 the tournament got a new face and a women’s tournament was established. In the sports and congress hall in Güstrow, numerous teams traditionally meet at the end of October or the beginning of November for the first highlight of the then still young indoor season. As a preparatory tournament, it is popular with many teams. The 2007 anniversary tournament was under the patronage of Prime Minister Harald Ringstorff .

organizer

The Wilhelm Höcker tournament was brought to life by the BSG Lokomotive Güstrow. Today it is hosted by the second division ATSV Güstrow.

The venue

The tournament is traditionally played on the two playing fields in the Güstrow sports and congress hall. In 1978 the concrete floor was replaced by parquet. Therefore there was no competition. With renewed renovation work, the tournament was relocated to the Kessiner Straße sports hall from 2003 to 2005. This major event has returned to the old venue since 2006. In 2007 the tournament took place in two halls for the first time. In addition to the sports and congress hall, the Kessiner Straße sports hall was also the venue.

The 2017 tournament

The 60th edition of the Wilhelm Höcker tournament took place on November 11th and 12th.

After 49 games, the new cup winners were chosen. The 2017 trophies were won by the Mariendorfer HC for both women and men. This peculiarity was only achieved once in the long history of the tournament in 2011. And it was also the Mariendorfer HC. The ladies of the Mariendorfer HC successfully defended the trophy in 2017 and entered the list of winners for the fifth time.

Eight teams came to participate in the women's event and ten in the men's event. It was played in two seasons. In preparation for the indoor season, the teams experimented and gained their experience.

The 2017 women's participants were hosted by ATSV Güstrow and teams from Osternienburger HC , Mariendorfer HC (cup defenders), 1st Kiel HTC, TSV Leuna, Potsdamer SU, Rotation Prenzlauer Berg and Marienthaler THC.

In addition to the host ATSV Güstrow (cup defender), teams from the Osternienburger HC , Mariendorfer HC , Cöthener HC 02 , Füchse Berlin Reinickendorf, TSV Leuna , 1. Kieler HTC, TSV Zehlendorf 88 , SG Rotation Prenzlauer Berg and Marienthaler THC took part in the men's tournament .

In 2017, participants from five federal states submitted their business cards to this traditional tournament.

The games were led by experienced referees. The East German Hockey Association used the Wilhelm Höcker tournament to prepare for the Bundesliga season in the hall. At the side of the experts, junior referees also had the opportunity to qualify.

The 2019 tournament

The 62nd edition of the Wilhelm Höcker tournament will take place on November 9th and 10th.

The winners of the traditional tournament

With 12 victories, the women of the Plauer SV have won the trophy most often. In the men's category, the host ATSV Güstrow has been the most successful so far with 18 cup wins. In 2011, 2017 and 2018, Mariendorfer HC was the only club so far to win both the women's and men's tournaments and to kidnap both trophies from the Barlachstadt.
