The Wilhelm Waiblinger House is a building erected in Heilbronn in 1927 . In its eventful history it has already served as a youth hostel, school building, employment office and vehicle registration office. Since 1978 it has been the seat of the city and district youth council , which currently has 65 member clubs and associations. Since then it has been named after the poet Wilhelm Waiblinger .

history

The building at Schützenstraße 16 was built as a youth hostel under the direction of the Heilbronn Building Department in 1927. At that time it contained seven large bedrooms, a meeting room, two day rooms and eleven single rooms with a total of around 100 beds. The inauguration of the new youth hostel on the Hammelwasen took place on July 17, 1927.

The building served as an employment office in the post-war period and could be renovated after the employment office had moved into a new building on May 30, 1950. On July 9, 1950, the building was reopened as a youth hostel as part of a ceremony. The City Administrative Director a. D. Rudolf Kopp took over the job of the manager, the first parents of the hostel were the couple Heinz Gaßmann. However, part of the building was used by the Heilbronn trade school. In 1952, at the request of Mayor Paul Meyle , the house was renamed Reinhardt-Heim in honor of the former hostel father Karl Reinhardt, who was killed by a grenade in 1945. The youth hostel later moved into a new building at Schirrmannstrasse 9 and continues to be called Reinhardt-Jugendherberge there .

After the building served as a vehicle registration office for some time, the city and district youth council has had its seat there since 1978 and uses it as a contact and advice center for young people, as a coordination point for member associations and for events. In 2012, the 12th outdoor outdoor festival took place in the courtyard of the building and has already provided a stage for numerous regional bands such as The Prophecy 23 or Circle of Silence .

When fire protection deficiencies became apparent in the building in 2005, a large cross-party majority, including Rainer Hinderer (SPD), spoke out in favor of the renovation and maintenance of the building. City Councilor Karl-Heinz Kimmerle (Greens) emphasized: “Schützenstrasse 16 is an architecturally interesting building that is worth fighting for.” In 2009, the Heilbronn-Franken Pop Office was set up in the building with the support of the Baden-Württemberg Pop Academy , which offers young musicians a recording studio.
