Wilhelm is an impact crater to the southwest of the front of the moon , west of Tycho crater and northeast of Longomontanus . The rim of the crater is very heavily eroded and partially covered by further impacts, the interior of the crater is relatively flat.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the astronomer Wilhelm IV, Landgrave of Hessen-Kassel .
