Wilhelm Bärensprung (printer, 1692)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wilhelm Bärensprung (baptized April 21, 1692 in Zwickau ; † August 3, 1761 in Schwerin ) was a German printer's owner and court printer in Schwerin.

Life

The history of printing began in Schwerin with the establishment of Peter Schröder in 1683. He was followed by his sons-in-law Hartwig Lübke , who achieved the title of court printer, Johan Lembke and, after his death in 1715, finally Wilhelm Bärensprung, ancestor of the Schwerin printing family Bärensprung.

Bärensprung, who had initially tried his luck as a soldier, obtained the privilege of printing on January 28, 1716 after his marriage to the widow Christine Lembke . At first it was not very successful and went bankrupt in 1737, but then made a more successful fresh start. The success story of the printing company began with the Mecklenburgische Zeitung, published since 1757 (at that time under the title “Schwerin Newspapers of the Strangest World Stories”). In 1760 Bärensprung, widower for the second time since 1758, left the printing shop to his son Christian Johann Wilhelm, born in 1737 . As a result, it became one of the most important in Mecklenburg and remained in the possession of the Bärensprung family until 1884. The printer then became the property of Karl Francke.
