Wilhelm Barge

Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Barge (born November 23, 1836 in Wulfsahl , Dannenberg, † July 16, 1925 in Hanover ) was a German flautist .

Wilhelm Barge was self-taught on the flute due to his rural origins. In 1854 he joined the Hanoverian body regiment as a military musician . In 1861 he got a job as a flautist at the Horchester in Detmold . In 1867 he switched to the Leipzig Theater and Gewandhaus Orchestra as solo flutist and remained in this position until 1895. From 1881 to 1908 he taught at the Leipzig Conservatory .
