Wilhelm Becker (astronomer)
Wilhelm Becker (born July 3, 1907 in Münster , Westphalia, † November 20, 1996 in Binningen ) was a German astronomer . He was the brother of the astronomer Friedrich Becker .
From 1953 Becker was director of the Basel University Observatory. His main field of work was in the field of spectrophotometry .
Honors
In 1976 he was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1977 he received the Karl Schwarzschild Medal of the Astronomical Society for his work "The Galactic Structure from Optical Observations". Since 1974 he has been a corresponding member of the Braunschweig Scientific Society .
