Wilhelm Bruhn (pedagogue)

Wilhelm Bruhn (born December 12, 1876 in Itzehoe , † January 25, 1969 in Oberalting-Seefeld ) was a German Protestant theologian, educator and university professor.

Life

The teacher's son Wilhelm attended high school in Itzehoe and Glückstadt and studied Protestant theology and philosophy in Kiel . In 1903 Bruhn became pastor in Sankt Annen (Dithmarschen) and in 1907 obtained a licentiate in theology. He then passed the state examination for teaching in 1909. Bruhn completed the seminar year at the Hamburg School of Academics of the Johanneum and taught from 1909 to 1911 in Züllichau , then as a teacher in Berlin and Kiel. During the First World War he served as a chaplain . In 1919 Bruhn completed his habilitation in systematic religious studies in Kiel, 1922–1925 he taught as a private lecturer in religious studies and philosophy of religion at the Philipps University of Marburg , 1925–1926 as ao. Professor of Religious Studies, Philosophy of Religion at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel .

On April 1, 1926, Bruhn was appointed professor for religious studies and philosophy of religion at the Pedagogical Academy in Kiel, and in 1929 as rector and professor for pedagogy and philosophy at the newly opened Pedagogical Academy in Erfurt . A total of 12 full-time and four part-time teachers taught at the academy. The number of students, only two of whom were admitted in May each year, were able to complete their studies in Erfurt, totaled 219. They were predominantly male and came from the middle class in the city and region. The academy was initially housed in the old teachers' college in the government street, which later became the orthopedic clinic. A spacious new building for approx. 300 students on Beethovenplatz was in the planning stage. But the academy was closed again on April 1, 1932 due to financial difficulties. From 1929 to 1941 he was honorary professor in Kiel. Bruhn became a member of the Nazi teachers' association . From 1929 he was a member of the Erfurt Academy of Non-Profit Sciences in Erfurt . He lived in Buch am Ammersee until his death .
